Reflection

Most of us feel like we have to hide our failures or put on a brave face to be accepted. We assume that if God is real, He must only be interested in the polished, successful versions of ourselves. This verse tells the opposite truth. God doesn't stand at a distance waiting for you to get your life together; He moves closer when you are falling apart. When your heart is heavy or your spirit feels crushed by regret, that is exactly where God meets you. He isn't looking for perfection; He is looking for honesty. Because Jesus took on human suffering and defeated death, He understands your pain firsthand. He offers a way out of the wreckage. His invitation is open to every person, without exception.
