For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Matthew 16:26 (KJV)

Reflection

We spend our days chasing things that cannot love us back. We strive for comfort, influence, and security, yet even if we managed to hold the entire world in our hands, it would eventually slip through our fingers at the grave. Within every human being is an immortal life—the soul—that was designed for eternity. It is more valuable than any empire because it is the seat of our capacity to know and be joined to God. To lose the soul is to drift away from the very Source of life until we become strangers to ourselves and to the One who made us. Christ offers a different way: a victory over death that restores our humanity. He asks us to weigh the temporary against the eternal. Turn toward Him today; He is the Physician who heals and the Life that never ends.
