A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

John 13:34 (KJV)

Reflection

We often mistake love for a flicker of emotion or a transaction of kindness. But the love Christ speaks of is a different reality altogether. It is the very life of God pouring out into the world. He does not ask us to merely be nice; he calls us to love exactly as he does—a love that holds nothing back, even unto death. By stepping into this way of living, we begin to shed the old, decaying skin of selfishness and start to breathe the air of eternity. This isn't about following a rule to stay out of trouble; it is about becoming whole. To love like this is to participate in the victory of life over death. Look at the cross, see how he gave himself for you, and begin to love those around you today.
