Verse

Sirach 10:26

A church father on this verse
Avoid boasting about one's own good works, for arrogance of this kind is an abomination before the eyes of God and stops one from doing good in adversity, "because tribulation produces perseverance, and perseverance produces character, and character produces hope."
Rabanus Maurus, 9th c. — ON ECCLESIASTICUS 3:3

25Unto the servant that is wise shall they that are free do service: and he that hath knowledge will not grudge when he is reformed.

Sirach 10:26

27Better is he that laboureth, and aboundeth in all things, than he that boasteth himself, and wanteth bread.

28My son, glorify thy soul in meekness, and give it honour according to the dignity thereof.
